LOCAUTO Car Rental at Naples Airport

The Naples Airport Locauto office is located just 500 meters from the arrivals hall. Customers need only pass through the sliding doors and exit to find that a convenient free shuttle service is running from just outside the terminal to the various car rental companies in Naples Airport. The shuttle service runs from 7.30 am in the morning to 11.30 pm at night.

Locauto's service station can be reached on +39 081 751 8899 from Mondays to Sundays during the hours of 8.00 am to 11.00 pm. The parking lot where the Locauto Naples Airport fleet is kept is just opposite the office.

Autostrada A56 links Naples International Airport with the city of Naples, taking drivers onto the SS162 first, before reaching the city center.

In the city center, due to its historic nature, a ZTL or Zona a Traffico Limitato applies, meaning that there is restricted access for motorists who are NOT residents with special permits. Entering such zones, which are monitored by cameras, may incur a fine. Fortunately, there are plenty of parking spots on the outskirts of Naples, and even more tourist attractions that tempt visitors away from the ZTLs!

The E45 motorway leads to nearby Pompeii, a 29-km drive, and there also are the delights of the Amalfi and Sorrento coastline, about an hour and a half away. The speed limit on Strade Statali, the SS routes, is incidentally 110 km/h (68 mph). On motorways the speed limit is 130 km/h (80 mph).

Covering an area of more than 100,000 square meters, Naples Zoo in Viale John Fitzgerald Kennedy, is a great place to take the family. Zoo di Napoli is home to 409 animals and 202 plant species, all living in specially designed habitats that reflect the natural surroundings of their home countries. There are elephants and giraffes, tigers and bears, and a petting zoo full of small cuddly animals that appeal to small children. The zoo is open from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm daily between November and March, and from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm from April to October.

The National Museum of Naples (+39 081 442 2149, https://www.museoarcheologiconapoli.it/en/) at the Piazza Museo Nazionale 19 is home to some of the world's most important historic objects from Greek and Roman Antiquity. It houses collections from finds excavated at Herculaneum, Stabies and Pompeii. The museum often serves as a first taster for tourists to go and see these ancient sites for themselves.

Stabies, (modern day Castellammare di Stabia), is located 29 km southeast of Naples, roughly a 28 minute drive. Ancient Stabies was destroyed by a powerful eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and modern-day Stabia sits on the ruins of the old settlement.

Excavations have been going on in Stabia since the 19th century, but it wasn't until the 1950s that the beautiful villas of ancient Stabies began to appear in all their beauty: among them Villa Arianna and Villa San Marco. Admission to the site is free. The oldest foundations of Villa Arianna suggest that it was first erected in the 1st century BC. Mount Faito, part of the Monti Lattari mountain range, overlooks modern Stabies. It is a popular destination for hikers. But if you don't like walking, there's a funicular leading up to the peak. At 1,131 meters above sea level Mt. Faito is one of the highest peaks overlooking the Sorrentine Peninsula, affording spectacular views across the Bay of Naples.
